Approximately 80 percent of the time, it is accurate. Other useful methods of determining weight include measuring body fat (which is usually prohibitively expensive to do accurately), or looking at waist size. A study found that a waist size of 40 or more for adult men, and 35 or more for adult women, put them at greater risk for type 2 diabetes.
