Leonardo DiCaprio is the latest Hollywood hypocrite to prove that what he says he believes about ‘climate change’ is BS

(Freedom.news) Disclaimer: We’re capitalists here – no, not crony capitalists, genuine free-market capitalists – so this post regarding stunning hypocrisy demonstrated recently by Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio has nothing at all to do with what he gets paid to play parts in movies. He’s a talented individual when it comes to that sort of work, and he is well within his rights to earn whatever he can selling those talents.

That said, when his virulent displays of opulence so thoroughly undermine his stated beliefs, such discrepancies cannot go unnoticed or unreported.

You may recall that DiCaprio finally won an Oscar recently for his role in the adventure epic “The Revenant.” You may also recall that during his acceptance speech, he used the well-televised occasion to make a political statement, as Hollywood stars these days so often do, to talk about “climate change.”

“Making ‘The Revenant’ was about man’s relationship to the natural world … climate change is real,” he said. “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

He continued, “Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take tonight for granted.”

With such conviction, you’d think that Leo would do everything he could to reduce his own carbon footprint in the world, right? Live as he would have us live – as much as is possible, given the difference in wealth between him and 99 percent of the rest of the world, right? Lead by example?

You might think that, but you’d be wrong. Per the New York Post’s “Page Six” over the weekend:

Leo DiCaprio picked up an environmental award in NYC this week — but hypocritically expanded his carbon footprint by 8,000 miles when he obtained the honor, by taking a private jet from Cannes, then flying straight back to France on another jet for a model-packed fund-raiser a night later.

DiCaprio was at the Cannes Film Festival this week, and was spotted there partying at club Gotha on Monday with model Georgia Fowler, then jetted back to New York for the Riverkeeper Fishermen’s Ball at Chelsea Piers on Wednesday, where he was honored by the clean-water advocacy group and Robert De Niro.

Just 24 hours later, DiCaprio reappeared back in France for amfAR’s glitzy Cinema Against AIDS gala, where he gave a speech.

His uber hypocrisy did not go unnoticed by real environmentalists, like analyst Robert Rapier, who said the actor’s movie-star lifestyle “diminishes his moral authority to lecture others on reducing their own carbon emissions.”

“[He] demonstrates exactly why our consumption of fossil fuels continues to grow. It’s because everyone loves the combination of cost and convenience they offer. Alternatives usually require sacrifice of one form or another.” Rapier added, “Everybody says, ‘I’ve got a good reason for consuming what I consume’ . . . It’s the exact same rationalization for billions of people.”

A source close to DiCaprio told Page Six that the star did not charter his own flights, but merely “hitched a ride with someone already flying back [and] to Cannes. Hitching a ride was the only way he could make it in time for both events.”

Oh. So, being an accessory to boosting carbon footprints is somehow different. Got it.

We don’t agree with Rapier (or DiCaprio, or President Obama, or Al Gore) or any of the other charlatans pushing this phony “global warming/climate change” agenda, but he makes the point well that our A-list action star certainly is not living his stated convictions.

Thing is, it’s DiCaprio’s life and he can live it anyway he chooses. He has earned what he has earned and he is free to spend it (or not).

Just do the rest of us a favor, Leo – spare us the politically correct nonsense and accept that the rest of us are also free to live life as we choose. It may not be as opulent, but it will be a helluva lot less hypocritical.
