Yahoo may be dropping Google, but Google still rocks
by Mike Adams (see all articles by this author)
This news is not unexpected, but it's still big news. Presently, Google
dominates the search space, and part of that reason is because other
search portals (like Yahoo) still show Google search results. But that's
changing, and Google is going to need to keep innovating to stay ahead
of the pack. Of course, Google is innovating new forms of web
marketing (such as their Adsense program), and they're presently well
ahead of Yahoo in terms of search technology.
- Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) (NasdaqNM:YHOO - News) once was the
unquestioned first choice for help in navigating the Internet.
- Then it lost that distinction to Google Inc.'s powerful search
technology.
- First, Yahoo is expected to dump Google as the primary search
technology on its site within a few months, a move that could come
around the time Google is preparing a long-awaited initial stock
offering.
- Third, it plans to expand its use of "paid inclusion," whereby it
frequently surveys a participating merchant's sites for the most
up-to-date information and includes those findings in users' search
results.
- Yahoo spent more than $2 billion last year buying Overture Services
Inc. and Inktomi Corp. to buttress its in-house search technology.
