Complaints about Google Adsense are little more than unjustified Google
bashing
by Mike Adams, NaturalNews Editor
Here's a scathing review of Google's Adsense program by a Jupiter
Research analyst, and this deserves some comment. Everybody loves to
attack the top dog, and Google is the top dog. It's the same as the
frivolous lawsuits against Wal-Mart: people always attack the company on
top, whether deserved or not. It's worth remembering that Google got to
the top in the first place by building a better search engine and
engaging in constant innovation that left competitors in the dust. It's
also worth noting that Google was the only search engine to
clearly label ads as ads (many other engines secrets display "search
results" as ads in an effort to mislead users). In fact, Google has the
highest integrity and the best technology of any search engine out
there. So what's the problem? The problem, according to this Jupiter
analyst, is that Google doesn't allow people to bid separately for
Adwords ads that appear on content sites rather than Google.com. But
that's no justification to call Adsense a "house of cards." In reality,
Google is going to be responsive to advertisers' concerns in this case,
just like they have in other cases.
All I see from this Jupiter
analyst is unjustified Google bashing. As for my own biases, I speak
highly of Adsense not because I use it. Conversely, I use it because I
think highly of Adsense. It's a dream come true for Internet
publishers like myself. More power to Google for pioneering Adsense and
keeping competitors like Overture on their toes.
- Google is now the Web's fifth most popular destination, drawing close
to 60 million visitors each month.
- Though in no danger of losing its sterling reputation with consumers,
Google is running afoul of advertisers and publishers.
- Key to Google's relationship with advertisers and publishers in 2004
-- in fact, key to the company's long-term growth -- will be development
of its AdSense contextual advertising program.
- With many predicting massive growth in contextual advertising, the
program could become a major revenue source for the company.
- AdSense, launched in February 2003, increases advertisers' reach by
placing their Google text ads on relevant content pages across the Web.
