Both the USDA and FDA put profits ahead of public safety

by Mike Adams (see all articles by this author)

Here's an outstanding editorial on the current sad state of food safety in the U.S. It compares actions on food safety to those of the Pentagon and Bush Administration on terrorism: they will do practically anything to stop terrorists who have killed around 3,000 Americans, but they do virtually nothing to stop the terrifying threat of mad cow disease, which threatens hundreds of millions.

Prescription drugs, too, kill 100,000 American each year even when used correctly. That's more than thirty times the deaths of 9/11. Where is the government to protect us from profit-seeking pharmaceutical companies?

In one case after another, our own government puts profits first, public safety last. Exposing the meat-eating public to beef that contains spinal cord tissue is no worry in Washington. They're out to protect industry. And the FDA, of course, seems determined to protect the profits of drug companies. It's no wonder: more than half the employees at the FDA and USDA used to work in the very industries they now regulate.
