An opposition group that included dozens of “ex-gays” rallied at California’s state capitol recently to protest new legislation that aims to outlaw so-called “conversion” therapy for members of the LGBT community.
More than 30 former homosexuals and transgendered people spoke at the rally in Sacramento, sharing their personal stories about how conversion therapy helped them to accept their natural biological and gender identities.
“I did not want to be gay,” stated Christian pastor Jim Domen, who explained before a crowd how conversion therapy helped him to marry his wife and have children. “Please do not take away professional help programs that have helped people like me.”
Equipped to Love co-founder Ken Williams expressed similar sentiments, warning that if the new legislation passes, individuals who don’t want to be LGBT will have a much harder time getting the help they need.
It “actually takes away rights from those who are questioning their sexuality,” Williams stated, adding, “we don’t want to see an America where the government is controlling how people identify sexually.”
Known as Assembly Bill 2943 pertaining to “Unlawful business practices: sexual orientation change efforts,” the legislation would essentially bar any entity, including therapy businesses and possibly even services, from selling services related to sexual orientation change.
Any act of “advertising, offering for sale, or selling services constituting sexual orientation change efforts to an individual” would be completely off limits, as the bill defines such services as “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.”
As Natural News previously reported, the bill’s open-ended verbiage could also end up leading to the prohibition of Bible sales in the state of California, as multiple passages of scripture speak directly about issues pertaining to sexuality.
Speaking to Breitbart News, Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, a licensed clinical psychologist, had even more to say about the science-based merits of conversion therapy. As the owner of the largest reparative therapy clinic in the world, Dr. Nicolosi has seen his services help not only people trying to escape the LGBT community, but also victims of trauma and sexual abuse.
“In the client-therapist relationship, the client is in the driver’s seat,” Dr. Nicolosi stated, emphasizing that nobody is being forced to undergo conversion therapy. “Politicians have no business telling people their therapy goals are illegal.”
The LGBT community itself is the entity trying to advocate for unlimited sexual “fluidity” anyway, meaning that people can change their “genders” at will. In Dr. Nicolosi’s view, this means that people who want to change their genders or sexual identities back to match their natural biology should have the freedom to do so with the help of a licensed professional.
“Thirty years of science has shown us that sexuality is fluid and can change for many people,” Dr. Nicolosi added.
“Sacramento politicians want to deny the people of California the freedom to find joy in living consistently with their values, including as they relate to their sexuality.”
A 1997 study conducted by the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) found that almost half of a group of 882 patients who underwent conversion therapy experienced a “significant change” in their sexual attraction.
Among patients who self-identified as “exclusively homosexual,” an impressive 17 percent self-identified as “almost entirely heterosexual” by the end of their treatment. Another 12 percent indicated that they felt more heterosexual than homosexual by the end of the treatment – but this isn’t what the LGBT mafia wants to happen.
“The LGBT lobby abhors having the homosexual inclination treated as a pathology and wants to prevent anyone from doing so, by coercion if necessary,” writes Dr. Thomas Williams for Breitbart News.
“The suggestion that people with same-sex attraction can be helped by therapy to modify their sexual orientation is anathema to the LGBT movement.”
