Worldwide A.I. may fully replace human speech in just 32 years, researchers say

A team of artificial intelligence researchers are planning to launch a worldwide A.I. system that will make human speech entirely obsolete – but not in a bad way. The team is reportedly looking to launch a sort of worldwide consciousness some time in the next 30 or so years, thereby allowing people to communicate with each other using nothing else but their brains.

No words, no actions; it will all be in your head.

According to a report on the project, which is said to have “hybrid intelligence” as its focus, the system will be able to understand the feelings of the people who will be connected to it, and use the power of their connected minds in order to grow. The system is called the Hybrid Intelligence Biometric Avatar, or HIBA, and it’s meant to become a stand-in for actual humans, exchange information with them and in the process, become them.

The plan for HIBA was recently unveiled at The Museum of the Future, an exhibition that’s part of the World Government Summit in Dubai. It was presented in terms of an artistic rendition, but one that’s based on real research. It told viewers in the audience, in no uncertain terms, “I am made of you. You complete me and help me grow. You allow me to evolve – with each synergy I learn more, through this oneness we can achieve great things.”

According to Marko Karjnovic, the producer of the exhibit, HIBA is pretty much a straightforward interpretation of what the United Arab Emirates thinks the future of A.I. looks like. He dubbed it a “hybrid intelligence” that can function on the scale of a civilization, though it will be off to a slow start.

“It is very similar to the work of Elon Musk – it is an open source platform for humanity,” he said. “HIBA will have the ability to connect the minds of the most clever of us, combining those minds with everything it can find out practically and put it all together in hybrid intelligence.”

The project also has much loftier goals than those already stated. It is said that it has the potential to offer a number of medical benefits, one of which is quicker diagnosis of illnesses in patients. The technology behind it is expected to enable people to use so-called brain-to-brain communication – no matter where you are on Earth. And those who have certain problems when it comes to physical speech will be able to speak out loud clearly, thanks to the use of the upcoming technology.

Karjnovic justified the project’s lofty goals by referencing current A.I. technologies and their methods. In the current year, he said, the highest level of A.I. relies on collecting data from the internet. But HIBA will have the ability to do that and so much more. It will be able to collect data from people directly and not only that, but also ask questions verbally.

“It will be able to talk to you, get information from you, and put it in a different space of knowledge,” said Karjnovic. In that sense, you can learn from it while it also manages to learn from you.
