NASA finds that Californians’ TRASH emits far more methane into the atmosphere than cattle ranches… should we ban trash services to solve the global warming problem?
By Ethan Huff // Nov 12, 2019

Scientists from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently conducted a fly-over across the state of California to determine the biggest sources of methane emissions. And as it turns out, trash is responsible for generating a full one-third of the type of atmospheric pollution that leftists claim is causing global warming.

Utilizing a specialized gas-imaging sensor system known as an Airborne Visible InfraRed Imaging Spectrometer, an aircraft deployed from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena was able to determine that landfills are by and large the most common "super-emitters" in the Golden State, along with industrial dairy farms and oil and gas fields.

The NASA plane looked at more than 300,000 facilities across the state, among which 550 of them were determined to be heavy emitters of methane. Of these 550, at least 55 were determined to be "super-emitters" due to the extremely high volumes of methane they emit. These 55 "super-emitters" alone were determined to generate at least 33 percent of California's overall methane emissions.

Further, of the 270 landfills that NASA surveyed, 30 of them fell into the "super-emitters" category – so much so that, all by themselves, these 30 landfills account for a shocking 40 percent of all emissions that were detected and accounted for as part of the survey.

"These findings illustrate the importance of monitoring point sources across multiple sectors [of the economy] and broad regions, both for improved understanding of methane budgets and to support emission mitigation efforts," stated Riley Duren, the study's lead investigator and a research scientist at The University of Arizona.

Perhaps it's time for California to ban metal straws, too, since they eventually end up in landfills

What this all means, of course, is that the biggest polluters in California aren't gas-powered vehicles or cows that fart; it's the waste generated by Californians, many of whom are Democrats. So, will their solution now be to end all trash pickup to halt the scourge of climate change?

Amazingly, this is the only logical next-step for dealing with the problem of trash in California, which is obviously warming California's climate to the point that the state can't catch a break on the wildfire front.

We're kidding, of course, but this is how many leftists think. In their fury to do something! about the climate catastrophe, liberals have already embraced some of the most outlandish ideas, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (AOC) infamous "Green New Deal," which we've reported would lead to mass starvation and total economic collapse.

If leftist Californians are really determined to tackle this landfill crisis, then they're going to have to ban a whole lot more things than just plastic straws – including metal straws, which eventually end up in landfills just like the plastic ones.

Heck, maybe it's time to just ban trash itself, since it's obviously warming the atmosphere to the point that NASA has dubbed it a "super-emitter." Everything will need to become reusable, including toilet paper and other hygiene products. And we certainly can't allow any more Women's March protest signs, which also end up in landfills.

"Wildfires give off CO2 (carbon dioxide)," pointed out one Zero Hedge commenter about another of the elephants in the room.

"If the vegetation rots on the ground instead of burning it gives off methane," this same commenter added. "Since methane is supposed to be 20X more potent as a 'greenhouse gas,' isn't that an argument for doing controlled burns?"
