The obsession among leftists to "cancel" all remaining vestiges of American culture is deeply misplaced, and should instead be refocused towards canceling Democrats, according to Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas.
While claiming to be the champions of "anti-racism" and "equality" for all, the Democrats have an extensive history of supporting overtly racist policies. One of these was the open slave trade, which was a direct product of the Democrat Party.
It was Republicans, in fact, who fought against the slave trade and ultimately abolished it, with much kicking and screaming from Democrats who gnashed their teeth at the thought of losing their free slave labor.
Democrats have also traditionally been involved in pushing eugenics programs like abortion and "ethnic cleansing," both of which help to achieve the longtime leftist goal of creating a "pure" human race.
Everything that today's Democrats claim to stand against are the very thing that their party has historically been for, right down to the cultural fascism that today's leftists are employing in order to silence all opposing viewpoints.
"The liberal mob is out in full force demanding that schools, sports teams, music artists, military installations, and even food products change their names if they have the slightest reference to any persons or events deemed unacceptable and offensive to the groupthink of the Marxist left," Rep. Gohmer recently stated, calling on Congress to #CancelDemocrats by acknowledging their sordid and indecorous history.
"Democrats argue that they are compelled to take these extreme actions because of “systemic racism” in America, all while conveniently pinning blame on Republicans and conservatives," he added, noting that the leftist violence and chaos sweeping our land is the epitome of fascism, which leftists claim to be fighting. "This revisionist history tells a story that simply has no basis in historical fact."
Republicans have always supported equal rights; Democrats NEVER have
The truth that Democrats are desperately trying to distract the public from knowing and understanding is that the Democrat Party for many years "was the ardent political advocate for discrimination and racism in our nation," Rep. Gohmert says. It was the Democrats who opposed the 14th and 15th Amendments, as one prominent example, which were overwhelmingly supported by Republicans to grant equal citizenship rights to black slaves, as well as the equal right to vote.
Both with these two amendments as well as with many other attempts to make black people equal with white people, civically speaking, the Democrats were there to try to stop it. Democrats, it turns out, are the systemic racism problem in our country that every step of the way has fought tooth and nail to keep black people as second-class citizens.
"The Jim Crow laws were enacted by Democrat legislatures and signed into law by Democrat governors," writes Bruce Bartlett in his book, Wrong on Race: The Democratic Party's Buried Past. "It could not have been otherwise, since there were virtually no Republicans in positions of authority in state governments in the South after the end of Reconstruction in 1877."
It was also the Democrats that tried to keep institutionalized racism alive after the 1800s, having elected Democratic President Woodrow Wilson to the White House in 1912. Wilson, it is important to note, enacted sweeping segregation policies, arguing that they would function "distinctly to the advantage" of black people. Wilson even required that photographs be sent in with job applications so the Democrats could differentiate between white and black applicants.
"Nearly fifty years later, when Republicans steadfastly supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Democrats filibustered the bill for 75 calendar days," Rep. Gohmert adds. "Republicans in Congress expended great effort to protect the basic rights promised to minorities in America by our nation's founders."
