Disney World employee Nick Caturano talked about his opposition to the Florida theme park's vaccine mandates during his Nov. 9 guesting on Brighteon.TV 's "Lawfare with Tom Renz."

The Walt Disney Company, which owns Disney World and Disneyland in California, mandated on-site employees to get vaccinated against the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) back in July. It also ordered newly hired employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination schedules before starting work.

"Employees who aren't already vaccinated and are working on-site will have 60 days from today to complete their protocols. Any employees still working from home will need to provide verification of vaccination prior to their return, with certain limited exceptions," the company said.

Caturano, a Disney World cast member for 16 years, said the theme park has mellowed down a bit since the July announcement.

"They're granting a lot of [vaccine] exemptions all of a sudden, but unfortunately, the exemptions are really discriminatory. They're trying to put N95 masks on people … [and] you got to have these masks super tight, when we've been wearing cloth masks that allow us to breathe," Caturano said.

"At the same time, they're loosening the restrictions on the vaccinated so they can take their mask off when they go away from the guests. [The N95 masks are] just impossible to breathe in. You just can't survive a 10-hour shift with those things." (Related: Disney goes full authoritarian, demands mask obedience even while you're walking and eating.)

He continued: "I'm looking at the actual framework of what I'm seeing, [and] the wording is private employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates are prohibited. But right under that, it says if employers do have a vaccine policy, then they must afford the following exemptions – and [personal protective equipment], constant testing and religious exemptions are part of that. It's not going to change anything. It just means that nobody will lose their job, but everybody will be forced into that discrimination, to wear that [Star of David.]"

Renz agreed with him, saying that the theme park has become "a place of nightmares."

Cast members oppose vaccine mandates

Many cast members have stood up against Disney's vaccine mandates – holding protests inside the park. Red Voice Media (RVM) reported that cast members in the Florida theme park protested against the vaccine mandate on Sept. 17. "So many cast members felt alone and felt like they were the only ones who thought this was wrong. I think we were made to feel that way on purpose. But we have connected now, and we are pushing back," Caturano said at the time of the protest.

The Disney World cast member espoused the same sentiment when Renz asked him about how employees are fighting back. "It's gone good, [but] not as expected or hoped because the media has really given me limited access. I can't get to Facebook groups; it's been really hard to reach [other] cast members," Caturano said.

"People still seem to be scared [and] isolated. They thought they were all alone, [but they become] glad [when] I'm in the fight. They're supporting me but yet they're not coming out, they're not becoming plaintiffs. I think as the movement grows and more of us are out in the open, we have a better chance of encouraging the weakest among us to feel the the courage to join."

Caturano also mentioned the contributions of Florida attorney Jeff Childers and Children's Health Defense (CHD) in their fight against the vaccine mandates. "They're also supporting us, so I think we have a little bit more leverage," he said. The Disney employee cited Mo van Hoek, the president of CHD's Florida chapter, for her help in explaining the vaccine legislation.

Politicians not doing enough to defend health freedom

"[We] control all parts of government in Florida, and yet we're having a challenge getting robust legislation to really come to the forefront. They're giving us all these watered-down versions … because they're all bought. They're all self-protecting [and] self-preserving," Caturano said.

Renz agreed with what Caturano said. "Even in states where we're standing up, [politicians are] getting bought off. This isn't a Democrat [or a] Republican thing. Both sides are corrupt. Even when you got a good guy like [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis, [he's] getting so much political pressure."

The Disney World cast member ultimately said: "We need to let them know what they're pushing is garbage. I think if we could kink the armor of Goliath … [and] put a rock in his head, we're going to encourage everybody all over the country. I'm seeing a lot of good happen, but we need a lot more."
