Biden administration turns down Washington mayor’s request for National Guard assistance to counter entry of illegals

Washington, D.C. is feeling the pinch of the influx of illegal immigrants and it could not expect immediate help from the Joe Biden administration.

This became evident after the Biden administration rejected Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser's request for the deployment of 150 National Guard personnel to check the entry of illegals to the United States' capital city and the District of Columbia.

The number of illegal aliens in Washington swelled after the authorities in Texas and Arizona got fed up with the inaction or the failure of the Biden government to check the unabated incursions of border-crossers to their states. Saying they can no longer allocate additional funding and resources to deal with the illegals, the Texas and Arizona leaders decided to give the national leadership a dose of their own medicine. They offered free bus rides to Washington for those illegal migrants freed by federal officials.

Muriel sought help as the capital's non-governmental organizations can hardly cope with the surge. Additional personnel are also needed to shuttle the immigrants from settlement areas to their final destinations in the country.

To absolve Biden of any involvement, a military spokesman told the Epoch Times in an email that it was Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin who turned down Muriel's request. Austin, of course, is a Biden appointee and couldn't be expected to contradict the administration's decision.

"We have determined providing this support would negatively impact the readiness of the DCNG [D.C. National Guard] and have negative effects on the organization and members. We understand SAMU First Response has received grant funding through FEMA's [Federal Emergency Management Agency] Emergency Food and Shelter Program, and has indicated that sufficient EFSP [Emergency Food and Shelter Program] funds exist at this point to provide migrant assistance," the spokesman stated.

Although disappointed by the rejection, Bowser said in a separate press conference that he intends to send an amended request for assistance on behalf of the city.

"When the mayor of the district says she needs or he needs, in the past or in the future, the D.C. National Guard to support the safe operation of our city, we expect a fair consideration," Bowser said. "So having just looked at their letter, they appear to say that [a] more specified request would help them understand our needs."

Only Biden has the authority to authorize National Guard deployment in Washington, and he can only do so after receiving a request from local officials.

Abbott: Nobody is to blame other than Biden for the invasion of illegals

While Washington was the first to take the hit, New York City (NYC) has also experienced the invasion of illegals. And it isn't far-fetched, the busloads of aliens would soon invade other major cities as well. Less than a  day after the federal government denied Bowser's request, Texas dropped its first busload of illegals in NYC.

For Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, nobody is to blame other than Biden.

"Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe," Abbott said in a statement.

"In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief," added Abbott, who also initiated the move to transport the illegals to Washington.

While Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey are sending a clear message to the Biden administration, the sound is annoying New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Bowser, who don't conform to their transfer of illegal immigrants to the East Coast.
