US Embassy in Moscow urges dual citizens to leave Russia ASAP or face being CONSCRIPTED
By Ramon Tomey // Sep 30, 2022

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow called on citizens with dual American and Russian citizenship to leave Russia at the soonest, lest they face military conscription.

The embassy issued the warning through a Sept. 27 notice posted on its website. Consular officials warned that Moscow "may refuse to acknowledge dual nationals' U.S. citizenship, U.S. consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia and conscript dual nationals for military service."

Any U.S. citizen who wishes to depart Russia "should make independent arrangements as soon as possible," given that "commercial flight options are extremely limited at present and are often unavailable on short notice." The embassy also suggested "overland routes by car and bus" as alternative escape routes to leave the country.

"The U.S. Embassy has severe limitations on its ability to assist U.S. citizens, and conditions – including transportation options – may suddenly become even more limited. U.S. citizens should not travel to Russia and those residing or traveling in Russia should depart Russia immediately, while limited commercial travel options remain."

Moreover, the embassy's notice exhorted citizens to avoid attending "all political or social protests" and taking pictures of security personnel during such events.

"We remind U.S. citizens that the right to peacefully assemble and freedom of expression are not guaranteed in Russia," it stated, adding that "Russian authorities have arrested U.S. citizens who have participated in demonstrations."

The embassy's warning came amid threats of nuclear war issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moreover, the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines also intensified the ongoing conflict. Reports have emerged that Western powers themselves were behind the sabotage in a bid to turn up the conflict with Moscow.

"Traveling out of Russia is becoming more difficult as the war advances, and it's unlikely to get easier in light of the damage done to Russia's pipelines," said SHTF Plan's Mac Slavo. "The former Soviet Union is not likely to take that sabotage lying down, and it has already said it is not bluffing when it comes to protecting its interests."

Putin plans to punish draft dodgers

The conscription notice issued by Putin for around 300,000 soldiers sent a mad scramble of Russian men fleeing the country. In fact, the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow became overwhelmed with individuals trying to flee being drafted into the Russian Armed Forces.

The men escaping the draft have strong reasons as Putin put certain measures in place that sought to punish draft dodgers. On Sept. 24, the Russian leader signed into law stiff penalties for desertion. The punishments weaved into the Russian Criminal Code under "mobilization, martial law and wartime measures" also covered long prison terms for "voluntary surrender."

Russia's main enemy Ukraine said it is willing to accept the men seeking to evade the draft. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky encouraged safe passage and protection for Russian soldiers who "surrender."

Other countries, however, have not been so kind.

The three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – have taken measures to essentially close off their borders to young Russian men trying to flee the conscription notice. This followed the three nations' de facto blanket travel ban on Russian nationals. Finland, meanwhile, has taken only temporary measures to restrict the flow of travelers coming from Russia.

"It looks like humanity is slowly waking up to what's going on," Slavo remarked about the Russian draft notice.

"If you haven't realized yet that all government is slavery and we are all slaves to the same system, it may be too late for you. Forcing people to kill for you and do what you say or [punishing] them means they own you, and you have an obligation to obey or face their punishment."
