Western world leaders condemn acts of TERRORISM committed by Hamas, support Israel’s right to DEFEND ITSELF
By Laura Harris // Oct 16, 2023

President Joe Biden and other world leaders have condemned Hamas' acts of terrorism.

Biden, along with President Emmanuel Macron of France, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom, released a statement on Oct. 9 indicating their "steadfast and united support" for Israel.

"We make clear that the terrorist actions of Hamas have no justification, no legitimacy, and must be universally condemned. There is never any justification for terrorism," they said.

The world leaders stressed that Hamas does not represent the interests of all of Palestine. Instead, they strongly condemned Hamas and its acts of terrorism against Israel, which have led to the loss of over a thousand lives, thousands more injured, and many individuals taken as hostages in Gaza Strip hideouts.

Sunak took to social media to show his support for Israel. "The people who support Hamas are fully responsible for this appalling attack. They are not militants. They are not freedom fighters. They are terrorists," he stated. (Related: BLM tweeted, deleted, then DOUBLED DOWN on calling Hamas attack "a desperate act of self-defense.")

Similarly, Biden echoed the unwavering support of his administration for Israel in his social media message: "Tonight, America says clearly to the Israeli people, to the world, and to terrorists everywhere that we stand with Israel. That will never change."

The world leaders who co-authored the joint statement recognized the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and supported justice and freedom for both Israelis and Palestinians. "Hamas does not represent those aspirations, and it offers nothing for the Palestinian people other than more terror and bloodshed," they stated.

Hamas does not speak for Palestinians

Hamas, a Sunni Islamic group that does not recognize the right of Israel to exist, has long been committed to liberating Palestine from Israeli occupation by any means.

Born in the poverty-stricken and oppressed environment of the Gaza Strip in the 1980s and 1990s under Israeli military occupation, Hamas is one of the major political parties in Palestinian territories. Since then, it has endeavored to claim land from Israel, which it believes rightfully belongs to Palestine.

Hamas advocates for the expulsion of Jews from the region. This is contrary to the Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization, which have been open to negotiating peace with Israel. In short, Hamas does not speak for all Palestinians.

The recent attack launched by Hamas, seemingly knowing that Israel would respond with force, underscores the group's willingness to escalate violence to embarrass Israel's government and potentially gain temporary sympathy in the Arab and Muslim world.

Hamas has employed brutal tactics like suicide bombings and commando raids with an estimated 10,000 to 40,000 fighters in Gaza. The Israeli military and intelligence have accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields.

Contrary to the claims of Hamas, Israel has existed since its establishment in 1948 when its founding Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion declared the independence of a Jewish state.

Its creation was laid years earlier with the Balfour Declaration, a British government statement endorsing the establishment of Palestine as a national home for the Jewish people.
