Dems launch write-in campaign for Biden in New Hampshire as the president withdraws name from state’s primary
By Arsenio Toledo // Nov 01, 2023

President Joe Biden's name will not appear on the ballot of the Democratic Party's presidential primaries in New Hampshire. State Democrats have already launched a write-in campaign for Biden in the Granite State to prevent him from suffering an embarrassment.

The write-in campaign for Biden was launched after he voluntarily elected to not appear on the ballot for the party's primary in New Hampshire. It also comes just days after three-term Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, one of the wealthiest members of the House of Representatives, filed official papers at the State House in Concord, New Hampshire, to place his name on the state's ballot as he launched a primary challenge against the president.

The write-in campaign is being spearheaded by a group that claims to be a grassroots organization led by veteran New Hampshire Democratic operatives and politicians. This group has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission under the name "Granite State Write-In."

"The fate of our democracy itself hangs in the balance in the 2024 election," reads the group's website. "That starts with supporting Joe Biden in New Hampshire's 2024 First in the Nation primary."

Despite being led by Democratic Party veterans in the state, the group is making an effort to emphasize that neither the president's reelection campaign nor the New Hampshire Democratic Party are involved.

Biden voluntarily chose not to appear on New Hampshire's ballot

The write-in campaign comes as the president decided not to appear on the state's 2024 primary ballot. This is the latest development in a long-simmering dispute within the Democratic Party over which states should have the first say in determining the party's presidential nominee.

Iowa and New Hampshire have traditionally kicked off the nomination process for both parties by holding the first caucus and primary votes, respectively. Recently, other states have been challenging their prime placement in the calendar, resulting in several states attempting to leapfrog one another, leading to a steadily earlier start to the primary campaign season every four years.

Biden, in a bid to win more Black voters and to solidify his 29-point win in the 2020 South Carolina primary, urged Democratic Party operatives to rearrange the primary calendar to give the Palmetto State the first shot at voting for the Democratic party's nominee. The Democratic National Committee adopted the president's proposal, scheduling South Carolina's primary on Feb. 3, with New Hampshire and Nevada to follow on Feb. 6.

However, the New Hampshire state government – controlled by Republicans – has refused to follow along with the DNC's proposal and indicated their intention to maintain its first-in-the-nation primary status. The state government argues that state law requires New Hampshire to hold its primary before any similar contest.

Without any resolution and with Biden refusing to be in contravention of the rules he urged the DNC to adopt, the president elected to stay off the ballot in New Hampshire.

"The sitting president of the United States is not on the ballot for the primaries in New Hampshire," said Tom Renz during an episode of his Brighteon.TV program. He further pointed out how Biden regularly messes up. "Literally no sane person in this country believes that Joe Biden is doing a good job."
