Report finds more than half of immigrants who have entered the U.S. since 2022 are JOBLESS
By Laura Harris // May 17, 2024

A recent Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report reveals that only 46 percent of immigrants who arrived in the United States in the past two years have secured employment.

According to the think tank's report, the foreign-born population of the U.S. as of March has soared to around 52 million, constituting 15.6 percent of the total population.

This surge includes both legal and illegal immigrants, with America's foreign-born population increasing by 5.1 million in just two years and 6.6 million since the beginning of President Joe Biden's administration – the largest such spike in American history. CIS estimates that the current illegal immigrant population exceeds 14 million.

But despite the dramatic increase in the U.S. immigrant population, the report still shows that approximately 8.5 percent of newcomers are unemployed. This figure is higher than that of U.S.-born citizens and immigrants overall. (Related: Chicago holds JOB FAIR for MIGRANTS amid rising number of unemployed Black residents in the city.)

Study authors Steven Camarota and Karen Zeigler did acknowledge that it would have been surprising if most new immigrants found jobs right away given how "adapting to life in a new country is never easy." They further acknowledged that many new immigrants are not in a position to work, either due to age, disability, caregiving responsibilities or other valid reasons.

"Many new immigrants are children, elderly, disabled, caregivers or others with no ability or interest in working. Immigration clearly adds workers to the country, but it just as clearly adds non-workers who need to be supported by the labor of others," the authors wrote. "This was the case in the past, it is true today, and it will surely be the case for immigrants who arrive in the future. Those who simply see immigration as a source of labor need to understand it is also a source of school children, retirees and many other non-workers."

Marlow: Biden favors open borders to keep wages down and democrats in power

The result raises fundamental questions about Biden's migration policies and the capacity of America to integrate and assimilate this growing population.

"The current scale of immigration (legal and illegal) into the United States is without any precedent in the nation’s history," the authors wrote. "If the trends since President Biden took office continue, the foreign-born population would reach 62.5 million in 2030 and 82.2 million by 2040 – larger than the current combined populations of 30 states plus the District of Columbia."

However, in an Oct. 17 interview with YouTuber Stephen Gardner, Breitbart Editor-In-Chief Alex Marlow explained how the Biden administration has been using the immigrants to keep wages down and Democrats in power. First, open borders benefit Big Business, now largely aligned with the Democratic Party and some Republicans, by increasing the consumer base and lowering wages for working-class people.

"The more immigration we have, the less they have to pay their workers. That makes their stock go up, [and] their expenses go down. Big Business loves an open border, [and] Big Business loves Biden."

Second, it helps the Democratic Party gain a new voter base to replace older voters who tend to vote Republican. Therefore, Democrats prioritize open borders despite any resulting humanitarian issues or wage declines.

"Republican millennials have some children, [while] Democrat millennials don't want to have kids as much," he told Gardner. "They're not interested in replacing their voters with new people that they can raise up. They have to figure out a way to get their voters, so they import them. Even though the illegal aliens aren't supposed to vote, they now vote in local elections. Their kids will vote, and they will vote typically for Democrats for a number of reasons – [such as] the handouts [given by] the Big Government nanny state."
