Former Epstein defense lawyer DENIES Musk’s claim that Trump is named in financier’s docs
By Ramon Tomey // Jun 09, 2025

  • Jeffrey Epstein's former defense lawyer David Schoen stated unequivocally that President Donald Trump's name is absent in Epstein's sealed documents, countering Elon Musk's claims.
  • Musk accused Trump of being named in the sealed files and suggested the DOJ was suppressing them to protect him, though he provided no evidence.
  • Musk's comments came amid a heated exchange over a controversial legislative bill, prompting Trump to threaten cutting Musk's government subsidies.
  • Epstein's ties to powerful figures and his mysterious jailhouse death have fueled conspiracy theories, with key documents (flight logs, contact lists) still sealed.
  • Despite Schoen's denial, skepticism persists in a politically charged climate, ensuring the Epstein case remains a contentious issue.

A former defense lawyer for the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has denied that President Donald Trump is named in the financier's sealed documents.

David Schoen, Epstein's lead defense lawyer before his death, dismissed claims by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk that the documents mention Trump by name. "I can say authoritatively, unequivocally and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump," Schoen wrote in a post on X, adding he "specifically asked" Epstein on the matter.

The statement by Schoen, a prominent civil rights and criminal defense attorney, sought to quell speculation that Trump was implicated in Epstein's case. It followed Musk's accusation issued on X that the real estate mogul is named in sealed Epstein documents. The South African-born tech mogul also suggested that the Department of Justice is suppressing the late financier's files to protect Trump.

"Time to drop the really big bomb: [Trump] in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public," Musk wrote on X earlier Thursday. He added cryptically: "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out."

The tech mogul put forward his claim, which he later deleted, amid a heated exchange over the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill." The sweeping legislative package combining tax cuts and budget reforms recently passed the House of Representatives, which the Republican Party currently controls. Epstein's ties still haunt Washington years after his mysterious death

Musk, who recently stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), criticized the bill as fiscally irresponsible. This prompted Trump to lash out on social media, with the president threatening to cut the entrepreneur's government subsidies.

"The easiest way to save billions is to terminate Elon's governmental contracts," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He earlier told reporters at the White House that he was "very disappointed" with Musk, a former ally.

The case of Epstein, who was convicted of sex trafficking of minors, has long been a magnet for conspiracy theories due to Epstein’s ties to powerful figures before his mysterious demise. The financier died in a Manhattan federal jail while awaiting trial. His death, officially ruled a suicide, remains shrouded in controversy, with skeptics questioning how such a high-profile inmate could die under federal custody.

Trump has previously vowed to declassify Epstein's files, but the delayed disclosure has drawn scrutiny. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced earlier this year that some Epstein-related documents would be released. However, key records including flight logs and contact lists remain sealed – fueling suspicions about undisclosed names.

The high-stakes clash underscores how Epstein's shadow continues to loom over Washington, even years after his death. Schoen's denial may dampen Musk's insinuations, but in a political climate rife with distrust, the controversy is unlikely to fade soon.
