An 81-year-old man used CBD oil – his tumor shrank by as much as 50 percent

After learning that he had lung cancer, a senior citizen rejected conventional cancer therapies. Instead, the 81-year-old patient took cannabidiol (CBD) oil for three months. The herbal medicine successfully shrunk the tumorous growth in his left lung.

A former chronic smoker, the unidentified patient used to go through a staggering 18 cigarettes each day. He quit the habit 45 years ago.

The long-term adverse effects of smoking haunted the man. He previously got diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and prostate cancer, although the last went into remission.

In October 2016, the man found himself short of breath for three weeks despite the lack of symptoms of a cough. He went to his primary care provider, who took X-ray and CT scans of his lungs.

The scans found a tumorous mass in his left lung. A follow-up test confirmed that he had lung adenocarcinoma and mediastinal lymph nodes.

The patient refused to go through chemotherapy and radiotherapy recommended by the provider. Instead, he chose to take CBD oil almost every day for three months.

New X-ray scans of his lungs revealed that the tumors in his lung shrunk by 50 percent. Furthermore, his lung cancer reversed its progress.

Senior citizen successfully treated his lung cancer with CBD oil

Researchers from the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) evaluated the man's recovery. They noted that lung cancer remains difficult to treat despite the introduction of new anti-cancer pharmaceutical drugs and increased effectiveness of targeted therapy.

Many lung cancer patients respond poorly to both conventional and targeted therapies. They also prove vulnerable to experiencing relapses during the follow-up period.

As a result, some patients skip conventional medical treatment or take natural treatments for lung cancer. Older patients often do this because chemotherapy and radiotherapy cause severe side effects in their aging bodies.

“Prior work has shown that cannabidiol may have anti-neoplastic properties and enhance the immune response to cancer,” the researchers explained. “The data presented here indicate that cannabidiol might have led to a striking response in a patient with lung cancer.”

The patient started CBD oil therapy in September 2017. He took two drops of oil twice a day during the first week. Afterward, he increased the dose to nine drops each day for the rest of the treatment.

He briefly stopped taking CBD oil when the taste made him slightly nauseated. But he never developed signs of physical illness from the herbal medicine.

Furthermore, he did not change his diet, lifestyle, and ongoing medication for existing health conditions.

Can CBD oil serve as a natural anti-cancer therapy?

Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD doesn't affect the mind of its user.

Studies showed that CBD oil helped ameliorate anxiety, arthritis, depression, and pain. The plant-based compound also alleviated the pain caused by cancer and its conventional treatments. Researchers even tested the oil itself as a potential means of treating cancer.

Experts said that the UHNM study represented a single example of CBD oil successfully treating lung cancer. More research is needed to show that cannabis achieved a considerable therapeutic effect on cancer.

Meanwhile, the UHNM researchers remarked that primary care providers must pay more attention to patients who respond positively to non-standard treatments.

In 2018, another senior citizen named Gary Hill succeeded in reducing the size of his cancerous growth with the help of CBD oil. Like the unnamed UHNM, Hill was also diagnosed with lung cancer.

Other reports brought up indirect evidence about patients who used CBD oil to mitigate or even outright cure cancerous tumors in the breasts, lungs, and skin. Some of these people chose natural treatment because they feared they wouldn't survive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
