Ted Cruz gets it right: If cities “defund” police and deprive residents of protection, they should be sued for damages
By JD Heyes // Jul 21, 2020

There are a lot of lawmakers in Washington, D.C., who think they’re smart and wise, but few who actually are.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is one the few.

Since the George Floyd incident, Democrat Marxists who are using that unfortunate tragedy to push for a full-blown Left-wing cultural revolution in America have begun pushing initiatives designed to bring chaos to our streets and anarchy to our cities — because remember, you can’t push for a revolution when things are fine and the country is prosperous and stable.

What’s more, they’re pushing these initiatives under the guise of ‘needed reforms’ due to ‘systemic racism’ (that doesn’t exist). It’s all a lie.

In any event, sane, thinking Americans can predict the effects of actually getting rid of the police: Widespread chaos, violence, destruction, anarchy…and death.

Cruz is well aware of the consequences of defunding police. But he’s also got a plan for residents to push back against the Left’s attempts to make our society so chaotic Americans will scream for the Marxists to storm in and ‘restore order.’

“Minnesota Dems willfully allowed Minneapolis to burn & then blamed the police whom they demonized. Now, they want the fed govt to pay the bill. I’m introducing legislation to make local govt liable to private property owners if officials deliberately withhold police protection,” Cruz tweeted July 12, after the Trump administration denied Minneapolis’ request for emergency funds to rebuild the widespread destruction wrought after the Floyd incident.

The Daily Wire noted:

The Trump administration rejected a $500 million federal aid request from Minnesota after Democrat Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey failed to stop significant damage from being inflicted on the city in response to the death of George Floyd.

“We’re asking our federal partners to step up and help our communities recover,” Walz said in a statement at the start of the month. “We need to come together to ensure Minnesotans who were victims of this destruction have access to critical infrastructure they need so they can go to the grocery store, pick up their medication, and live their lives. Together, we will rebuild.”

Added Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan: “We are committed to helping our communities rebuild, but we can’t do this on our own. While state, tribal, and local budgets are stretched thin by COVID-19, we need everyone to step up, including the federal government, to restore safety and critical infrastructure to our communities.”

‘Federal partners.’ Remember when Walz was telling President Trump to stay out of Minnesota’s business…as Minneapolis burned?

According to the Washington Examiner, more than 1,500 buildings were either damaged, looted or burned to the ground following Floyd’s death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

And under normal circumstances, that kind of destruction would surely warrant federal assistance.

But there was nothing ‘normal’ about what happened in Minneapolis, a city that has long been run by the same Democrats who are now claiming to be so ‘woke’ after the death of Floyd.

At least one Republican lawmaker from Minnesota prodded the president to decline the request, adding that the response of the city and the state needed to be reviewed first.

“If the federal government is expected to assist in the clean-up of these unfortunate weeks, it has an obligation to every American — prior to the release of funding — to fully understand the events which allowed for this level of destruction to occur and ensure it never happens again,” Rep. Tom Emmer wrote in a letter to the White House.

No question about that. And as to Cruz’s legislation, we can only hope it gets approved, though it’s likely to be killed off by House Democrats who are enabling the Leftist cultural revolution.
