“Terrain: The Workshops” on BrightU: How immune disorders may stem from a congested, toxin-overloaded liver
By Jacob Thomas // Apr 14, 2026

  • On Day 3 of "Terrain: The Workshops," Andrew Kaufman discussed a phenomenon where liver transplant recipients inherit the donor's allergies, or lose their own chronic conditions after focusing on liver health.
  • This suggests immune disorders like asthma and eczema may stem from a congested, toxin-overloaded liver, not a faulty immune system.
  • A toxic modern environment from plastics, pesticides and additives can overwhelm the liver's detoxification pathways.
  • The proposed solution involves a liver "reset" using methods like coffee enemas and milk thistle to flush toxins and support regeneration.
  • Kaufman concluded that healing begins by cleansing the liver, which can regenerate and alleviate these conditions.

On Day 3 of "Terrain: The Workshops," aired on April 13, host Andrew Kaufman discussed a startling phenomenon in transplant medicine that is challenging our fundamental understanding of immune disorders.

Immune disorders, often called autoimmune diseases, occur when the immune system malfunctions and loses its ability to distinguish between the body's own healthy tissues and foreign invaders like viruses or bacteria. This breakdown in self-tolerance leads the immune system to mistakenly launch an attack against the body itself, resulting in chronic inflammation, tissue damage and pain.

As noted by BrightU.AI's Enoch, common examples of these conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, which attacks the joints, psoriasis, which affects the skin, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which impacts the digestive tract, collectively illustrating how these disorders can target virtually any organ system.

Patients receiving a new liver have been documented inheriting the donor's allergies, asthma or eczema, while others see their own chronic conditions vanish after focusing on liver health. This evidence points to a radical, organ-centric view of the modern allergy epidemic, shifting the blame from a faulty immune system to an overwhelmed internal detoxification plant.

Integrative health practitioners like Kaufman are exploring the theory that a congested, toxin-overloaded liver cannot properly process environmental and dietary irritants, causing the immune system to misfire. "When the liver is congested and backed up, it's not able to process those toxins," Kaufman explained. The result? The body may reroute these irritants, manifesting symptoms in the skin and lungs as asthma, eczema or food sensitivities.

The evidence from transplant cases is compelling. In one documented instance, a recipient who never had allergies developed food allergies months after receiving a liver from a donor who had suffered from them. Kaufman cited a review showing that "food allergies range from 6% to 37% in children who receive organs after their transplant." This transfer of allergic predisposition with the organ strongly suggests the liver plays a primary regulatory role.

The root cause, according to this view, is a liver inundated by a toxic modern environment. Research connects fatty liver disease, often driven by environmental pollutants, directly to higher asthma rates.

"As the fatty liver index is higher, the rates of asthma kind of go through the roof," Kaufman noted, highlighting a clear association beyond mere coincidence. Our livers are processing an unprecedented chemical load from plastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and food additives, all of which can impair its detoxification pathways.

The proposed solution is not more antihistamines, but a "reset" of liver function. Protocols gaining traction include coffee enemas, which Kaufman personally tested. "After two weeks of two coffee enemas a day, I was able to eat those fruits that I was allergic to before without developing symptoms," he reported. The theory is that coffee enemas stimulate bile flow and dilation of bile ducts, helping to flush congested toxins. Supportive supplementation is also key, with milk thistle (silymarin) standing out as a potent protector. Research shows it "reduces liver injury" from a range of poisons, from acetaminophen to toxic mushrooms.

This research frames conditions like asthma and eczema not as isolated immune errors, but as downstream signals of a liver in distress. It suggests healing begins not with suppressing the immune system, but with cleansing the organ tasked with managing the body's toxic burden.

"Your liver can regenerate, no matter how far gone you are, you can still recover," Kaufman said. For those trapped in a cycle of allergic reactions, the path to relief may not lie in their genes, but in supporting the resilient, overworked filter that is their liver.
