A United Nations youth climate adviser has been found to have a history of social media posts that call for the end of capitalism, claim “terrorism” is used as a Western smear to justify imperialism, and attack white people for purportedly driving humanity’s extinction through the climate crisis.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres personally selected Pakistani-American Ayisha Siddiqa as one of his advisers to help “accelerate the implementation of his climate action agenda,” according to a 2023 UN announcement. Siddiqa, a Time Woman of the Year in 2023, co-founded two youth climate activist organizations.

The Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change provides practical advice and concrete recommendations to accelerate the implementation of the UN’s climate action agenda. Siddiqa was chosen for the two-year assignment based on her “demonstrated commitment to the UN’s values.”

However, Siddiqa’s social media posts reveal radical leftist beliefs beyond environmentalism. She advocates for police abolition, promotes socialist ideals, shares Marxist-themed and anti-capitalist content, and frequently criticizes white people.

Siddiqa’s climate activism stems not from a desire to protect the environment, but to challenge the West for its wars and Middle Eastern involvement, which she claims is connected to oil, according to a May 2020 post.

“You want to know why I got into climate activism, it wasn’t because I wanted to protect the environment… I became involved [because] the West slaughtered, bombed and starved my people to death in the name of oil. And no one talks about it,” she wrote.

Siddiqa also accused the West of “organized terrorism” in relation to the climate crisis and questioned the term “terrorism” when used by the West to describe actions by Islamist groups.

In a post about Hamas launching rockets into Israeli civilian areas in May 2021, Siddiqa referenced Marxist thinkers Franz Fanon and Angela Davis, who supported violence as a means of liberation.

Siddiqa blames white people for climate change, stating in a March 2021 post, “[T]he white man has brought life as we know it, to the verge of extinction.” She also believes white people should step down from power in the climate movement, stating, “We’re allowing White people to have too much space… white people have absolutely no prerogative or authority to lead the movement.”

Siddiqa criticized U.S. and Western foreign policy, calling then-President Biden a “war criminal” and labeling the British Royal family as “inequality, capitalism & White supremacy personified” in 2020.

In addition to supporting police abolition, Siddiqa believes capitalism is “the manifestation of racism” and its abolition is key to her climate agenda. She posted a quote from Marxist Franz Fanon and stated, “Psa: you can be Karl Marx reincarnated, but if you treat other people like they are insignificant… your ideology is worthless. especially if you’re a man, especially, especially if you’re a white man.”
